Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson addresses the media after the first day of training camp.

Before heavy snow started falling, the Chicago Blackhawks had their losing streak extended to five games after a 4-3 loss to the Nashville Predators. It’s the third consecutive one-goal loss on home ice to a Central Division opponent.

Friday night was off to a promising start, as Andre Burakovsky returned to the lineup, while the fans in attendance were jacked up about the black alternate sweaters being worn for the first time since 2009. But Nashville ended up spoiling the party, and a familiar face walked out of his reunion at the United Center with two points. More in the links for the recap.

Also in Blackhawks news, the Rockford IceHogs also suffered a one-goal loss on Friday, while a top prospect was held out as a last-minute scratch.

Around the league, Mike Matheson signed an extension with Montreal, more trade rumors involving the Nashville Predators, and Leo Carlsson led the Ducks to a shootout win over the Kings.

All that & more in the Daily!

Chicago Blackhawks Recap, News & Tidbits

Chicago Hockey Now: Andre Burakovsky was back in the lineup after missing the last three games, but he was clearly frustrated after the Blackhawks’ 4-3 loss to the Predators on Friday. Nashville’s assistant coach, Luke Richardson, returned to the United Center for the first time since being fired by Chicago, and he walked out of the building with two points. The Blackhawks have now lost five games in a row.

More CHN: In a recent interview on NHL Network, head coach Jeff Blashill praised Connor Bedard for the strides he’s made in his third NHL season. Blashill also discussed the team’s winning habits and goaltender Spencer Knight.

The Rockford IceHogs joined the Blackhawks in losing on Friday night, as they were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals 4-3 in overtime. An interesting development occurred just before puck drop, as Kevin Korchinski was removed from the starting lineup and listed as a scratch. The IceHogs did not mention why Korchinski was out. Could the former first-round pick be getting called up? The Blackhawks could use another puck-moving, left-handed defenseman to help out offensively.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: Along with the Vancouver Canucks, the Nashville Predators have been heavily involved in trade rumors following another sluggish start to the season. Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault could eventually be on the move, and here are five potential destinations for the two players.

NHL.com: Leo Carlsson scored the game-tying goal with under two minutes remaining in regulation and added two assists in the Anaheim Ducks’ 5-4 shootout win over the Los Angeles Kings. Carlsson is now tied with Connor Bedard for the fourth-most points (33) in the NHL.

Daily Faceoff: After suffering an injury in Wednesday’s 4-3 win over the Blackhawks, the Minnesota Wild have placed forward Marcus Foligno on injured reserve. Both Foligno brothers are now out for extended periods with injuries.

Hockey Wilderness: Kirill Kaprizov is cementing his reputation as an Avalanche killer. Kaprizov scored twice in the Minnesota Wild’s 3-2 win on Friday, which snapped Colorado’s ten-game winning streak. The Wild are now 11-1-1 in November.

Montreal Hockey Now: The Montreal Canadiens signed defenseman Mike Matheson to a five-year contract extension on Friday morning. The deal carries a $6 million cap hit and runs through the 2030-31 season.

Florida Hockey Now: Is it time for the Florida Panthers to panic? Probably not, but the two-time defending champions have now lost three consecutive home games for the first time since March of 2024. Florida is currently four points back of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

San Jose Hockey Now: Macklin Celebrini tallied two points, while the San Jose Sharks‘ special teams also came up clutch in a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Celebrini is now solo second in the league with 36 points.
