Corey Crawford Night in Rockford Should Feature an Encore in Chicago

Published

on

Corey Crawford made another save for the Rockford IceHogs. He didn’t man the crease nor did he suit up.

But his presence gave the BMO Center some electricity to help the Hogs snap a seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Chicago Wolves.

With the Blackhawks mired in a losing streak of their own, the IceHogs were looking to escape their own seventh circle of losing streak hell after posting three straight losses that took them to overtime, and just three games ago, a shootout.

It was Crow to the rescue again, the often underrated and overlooked netminder who posted 135 wins in the AHL with 75 coming in Rockford. The man who backstopped the Blackhawks to two Stanley Cups was in the house to watch his #29 go to the rafters and the Hogs get a much needed win.

Corey Crawford Night Should Head To Chicago At Some Point

Crawford was a fan favorite, but his numbers or efforts truly received the proper respect they deserved. Written much earlier here at CHN, there is no 2013 Stanley Cup parade without Crawford between the pipes. While Patrick Kane skated away with the Conn Smythe, it was Crawford who deserved the hardware more.

The IceHogs rolled out the red carpet for the former netminder, and it was richly deserved. The Blackhawks should follow suit at some point, providing an opportunity for his heroics with the big club to be relived again as well as rewarded. The Hall of Fame case will always be debated outside of Chicago, but it’s one that deserves a closer look.

An honor in Chicago seems right, whether a ring of accolades is established with his name included or a jersey retirement pulls that his #50 to the United Center ceiling.

Corey Crawford Night was a hit in Rockford.

It’d be a terrific encore in Chicago.
