Carolina is in playoff mode will present a challenge in overcoming the 20-game road losing streak that has set a franchise record. Bedard returning certainly helps, but beating the Hurricanes won’t be a simple task.
The Hawks were able to get past the Senators, but they’ll be hard pressed to score against a team ranked ninth in goals against. The Blackhawks, before and even with Bedard, have struggled to get on the board, and the Hurricanes will only add to that frustration.
Chicago has four goals in its last two games, but had only 20 in the 14 games it competed in without Bedard. The other positive? In three of their last four games, the Blackhawks have two or more goals, where previously, in their last six games, Chicago was shut out three times in those five. They only scored three goals total in that stretch.
Things are definitely looking up, and adding Bedard into the mix has been another aspect of it. But to notch that first road win in 21 tries, they’ll have to play things close as they have with others teams that on paper, are much better.
The standings and the stats certainly favor the ‘Canes. But the game is decided on the ice.
What Blackhawks team will be out there tonight is all that’s left to ask.
