Blackhawks Daily: Blues Make An Offer Sheet; Prospect Challenge

Published

APRIL 14: Frank Nazar #91 of the Chicago Blackhawks during the second period against the Carolina Hurricanes at the United Center on April 14, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois.

On Tuesday, the official schedule for the “Tom Kurver’s Prospect Challenge” was announced. This year, it is going to be played near St. Louis at the Centene Community Ice Center. It will feature the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, and Minnesota Wild. Per Ben Pope the Chicago Sun Times:

On September 13th, the Hawks will take on the St. Louis Blues at 7 pm. On September 14th, the Hawks will face the Minnesota Wild at 6 pm. On September 15th, the Blues will face the Wild to end the challenge at 3 pm. It is sure to be a great weekend of hockey in St. Louis featuring some of hockey’s brightest prospects.

Speaking of St. Louis, the Blues made a very strange move on Tuesday afternoon. They submitted offer sheets to the Edmonton Oilers for Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway.

If they get Broberg, they owe Edmonton a second-round pick. If they get Holloway, they owe them a third. The Blues had to re-acquire their original second-round pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins to get this offer sheet in because you must have your original selections as compensation.

It is a strange move for the Blues who are stuck in the middle right now. They are closer to being worse than the Blackhawks than they are winning the Stanley Cup which makes this a wild idea. Edmonton has seven days to make a decision.
