Chicago Blackhawks Recap, News & Tidbits
Chicago Hockey Now: Connor Bedard has looked like a different player so far in his third NHL campaign. The future of the Blackhawks’ franchise carried the team to a 7-3 win over the Senators on Tuesday, carding his first NHL hat trick and reaching 50 goals in his career. Bedard is just the seventh player in Blackhawks history to record 50 goals before turning 21. Here’s a look at each of Bedard’s three goals on the night.
More CHN: Bedard was the star of the show at the United Center, but here are a few other Blackhawks’ players who made an impact in the team’s fifth win over the past seven games.
More CHN: Head coach Jeff Blashill tinkered with his top power-play unit during practice on Monday, and that decision paid off early in Tuesday’s win over Ottawa. Bedard was moved to the right dot, while Andre Burakovsky was bumped up to the top group. That duo connected on one of Bedard’s three goals against the Senators.
While the Blackhawks had an offensive frenzy at the United Center, the Rockford IceHogs also put up six goals in Rosemont against the Chicago Wolves. Once again, Nick Lardis and Oliver Moore led the charge, as they combined for three goals and five points in a 6-1 win. Lardis now is tied for the AHL lead with 12 points, while Moore is tied for the league lead with six goals.
Despite skating on the fourth line, Anton Frondell tallied his eighth goal of the season for Djurgarden in the SHL on Tuesday. Frondell received a fortunate bounce on a 2-on-1 rush, but good things happen when you go to the dirty areas! Frondell now has 10 points through 15 games as an 18-year-old.
NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now
NHLdotcom: Thomas Harley is one of the most exciting up-and-coming defensemen in the NHL, and he got paid like it on Tuesday. The Dallas Stars announced that they signed the 24-year-old blueliner to an eight-year extension that carries a $10.587 million cap hit. Harley is now signed on through the 2033-34 campaign.
The Athletic: Jonathan Toews is set to play against his former team for the first time on Thursday, as the Winnipeg Jets host the Chicago Blackhawks. How is Toews feeling ahead of the matchup? Mark Lazerus, per usual, provides a career write-up on a recent conversation with Toews.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: More rookies for the Pittsburgh Penguins! The team recalled left-handed defenseman Owen Pickering from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Tuesday. The Pens made the move after Caleb Jones landed on injured reserve.
New Jersey Hockey Now: What a run it was for the New Jersey Devils. Their eight-game winning streak was snapped in an 8-4 loss to the Colorado Avalanche during “Frozen Frenzy” night. James Nichols from NJHN provides the full recap of what went wrong for the Devils.
Forever Blueshirts: The New York Rangers are still struggling at Madison Square Garden, but they earned a quality 2-0 road win on Tuesday in captain J.T. Miller’s return to Vancouver.
