The Chicago Blackhawks made the tough decision to send Frank Nazar and Kevin Korchinski to the AHL earlier this week. With more roster cuts undoubtedly on the way, sending Nazar and Korchinski to Rockford marked the first real turn from last season.

The Blackhawks are a deeper team compared to 2023-24. Last season, Korchinski played the season in Chicago out of necessity, now the Hawks can afford to send him to Rockford which will allow him to develop his game.

Blackhawks fans may remember the way Nazar came into the NHL, scoring a goal in his debut, he followed with a similar exciting start in Rockford on Wednesday.

Nazar finished his first AHL game with a goal and an assist in the IceHogs 4-3 win over the Iowa Wild. After the win, Nazar spoke of the importance of playing immediately after he was sent down.

“I just think it was good to get in and meet all the guys and just get out there for a game together,” Nazar said. “I traveled down last night and just wanted to get in and show what I can do.”

The Rockford IceHogs wrapped up their own preseason with a matchup with the Wild again on Thursday. While Wednesday’s game saw Nazar make his debut – Thursday was not as memoriable with the Wild winning 5-2. Rockford’s goals were scored by Gavin Hayes and Brandon Saigeon.

The Blackhawks also are getting ready to wrap up their preseason schedule, with another game tonight against the Minnesota Wild.
