The Daily: Canadiens Re-Sign Monahan; DeBrincat Speculation

Published

on

The Montreal Canadiens re-signed forward Sean Monahan to a one-year deal and the latest in the Alex DeBrincat news as to where he could go in today’s Daily.

Montreal Hockey Now’s Marc Dumont writes that out of three good reasons for the deal, the top reason is it provides stability and depth in what is a thin free agent market. Injuries limited Monahan to just 25 games but he had 17 points (6-11). If he manages to stay healthy, he could be a boon to a team that’s trying to escape a rebuild.

DeBrincat Deal to Detroit Seems Plausible After Yzerman’s Comments

The Alex DeBrincat debate of where he’ll end up continues with little in the way of new news but certainly some speculation. But some are weighing in for sure.

But what Shapiro writes was semi-confirmed by Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman in his pre-draft press conference Tuesday morning. When asked about trading within the division, Yzerman didn’t hesitate.

“If that’s in our division, I’m going to have a few more sleepless nights over the course of the year,” Yzerman said. “But I’m still going to make the best deal for the Red Wings regardless.”

Detroit Hockey Now has much more on what Yzerman said, which often, is saying much without saying much at all.

Blackhawks In Case You Missed It

  • In the next Blackhawks Rebuild Report, what would it take to trade into the Top 10 of the Draft. Beyond that, where are teams likelier to make a deal?
  • Another day, another award for Connor Bedard
  • Left Wing could be a target for the Blackhawks at the 19th overall pick. Could any of these options appeal and even be there?
