Blackhawks Acquire Josh Bailey in Trade; Buyout Coming

Published

on

The Chicago Blackhawks received forward Josh Bailey and a second-round 2026 pick from the New York Islanders for future considerations. The cap hit for Bailey is $5M with just a year left on the deal.

What looked like another move for a veteran who will help acclimate Bedard to the league turned out to be a quick buyout.

Blackhawks Get A Second-Round Pick As Well

Bailey had 25 points (8-17) which certainly was below what the Islanders were expecting when they signed him to the deal six five seasons ago. But needing cap room and the Blackhawks being more than accommodating to take the contract and the player who is part of the build around Bedard that surrounds what will be a young core with veterans.

Regardless, he was bought out just over an hour after the trade went through.

The Blackhawks still have four second-round picks to work with as they continue to find the next pieces to build with.
