Who said post-free agency July would be boring? Arbitration filings and trade rumors filled a busy Wednesday. The Blackhawks’ Philipp Kurashev was one of 22 players who filed for arbitration.

The Boston Bruins had three players file arbitration, which include goaltender Jeremy Swayman. Prior to filing for arbitration, however Boston Hockey Now’s Jimmy Murphy floating a concern that the Chicago Blackhawks could go the offer sheet route with Swayman. Of course as he points out, there is still an unwritten rule with GM’s about offer sheets. But in any other year, there’s real intrigue here.

Where it wouldn’t work is that it would cost Chicago a 2024 first and third-round pick, something that the Blackhawks wouldn’t be willing to give up so easily. Intriguing for sure. But nonetheless unlikely.

DeBrincat Trade Rumors Keep Rolling On

Detroit Hockey Now’s Bob Duff confirmed with a source that the Alex DeBrincat to Detroit rumors are still very much real. Adding more speculation to this is that the Red Wings may terminate Filip Zadina’s contract per his request, freeing up more money. Another source, according to Duff, poured cold water on it. For now.

Regardless, between Zadina getting waived for good and DeBrincat still being a target, Chicago’s arch-rival certainly is keeping things interesting.
