Scouting the Opponent & Miscellaneous Musings

The Blackhawks have a very interesting–and winnable–few games coming up. Anaheim is definitely beatable, a chance for the Hawks to string only their second winning streak together this season.

They have the Kings on Friday, which will present a bit more of a challenge, but they’ve risen to them, playing tight games against better teams. San Jose visits on Sunday in Round 2 of the Celebrini Cup, followed again by another round of Kings-Ducks-Sharks in that order.

So one of the best stretches of the season in terms of drawing opponents is here for the taking. For sure, there’s lottery implications but the Blackhawks had the third best odds last season–and still won the rights to draft Connor Bedard.

Why even be concerned for that? The leaders of the team have talked all season long of the importance of playing to win and for pride. The roster clearly has its struggles and doesn’t always stack up well against the other teams in the league, but they have played teams tight and at times, eked out victories that defied conventional wisdom.

That’s hockey, after all. Tonight is a good chance to string a winning streak together while also building on the little stretch of victories they’ve had–turning two of three into three of four.

Oh, and Connor Bedard has looked really good the past two games. Can he make a third?
