Blackhawks News: Frank Nazar and Kevin Korchinski sent to AHL

The Chicago Blackhawks made some news Wednesday morning following the team’s 7-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild last night. Chicago announced the latest round of training camp cuts, with some big names heading to the AHL.

Kyle Davidson’s offseason plan was about one thing – making this team more competitive and harder to make. Well, no one is being handed spots this season as the Blackhawks announced forward Frank Nazar, along with defensemen Louis Crevier and Kevin Korchinski have all been sent to the Rockford IceHogs.

The team also assigned forward AJ Spellacy to the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL.

Spellacy’s stand out training camp ended with a shot on goal and 11:23 minutes of ice time in Minnesota on Tuesday.

Before the Blackhawks traveled to Minnesota, Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson had this to say of Spellacy’s training camp.

“He looks good here in the NHL, but, he’s he’s probably got some things to work on,” Richardson said. “We just thought he’s earned an opportunity to play in a a game closer to the regular season.”

Spellacy making it this far through camp is a success. He is going to be a good player for Blackhawks fans to check in on throughout the year with the Windsor Spitfires.

Nazar, Crevier and Korchinski to Rockford.

Kevin Korchinski might have spent all of last season in Chicago, but the 20-year-old defenseman needs to take another step forward before rejoining the team. Rockford did wonders for Alex Vlasic’s development and turn to become a top four defenseman – Korchinski will get a similar opportunity.

Louis Crevier may not have made the Blackhawks out of training camp, but the 23 year old defenseman could still join the team midseason if injuries arise. Crevier will be a leader on a young blue line in Rockford. The IceHogs are set to have a competitive team and Crevier can help lead the pack – especially after playing in 24 games with the Hawks last season.

Frank Nazar joined the Blackhawks late last season and looked like someone who could immediately file into the top six. He struggled at times throughout the preseason leading to the team’s decision to send him to Rockford. While Blackhawks fans might have had higher expectations – this as by no means anything to worry about. Nazar has played just three games of professional hockey. Last season he played for the University of Michigan. The 20-year-old has plenty of time to get to the NHL.
