Blackhawks Prospects Analysis: The Old College Try Part 1
The first of two pieces on Blackhawks in the college ranks
Earlier in the week, the Blackhawks prospects analysis looked at the those in the Ontario Hockey League. Today we look at those in the college ranks, which includes some on a point-per-game streak and those who will be clashing soon.

Big 10 Blackhawks Prospects Chugging Along
Notre Dame’s Landon Slaggert, and Minnesota’s Oliver Moore are both at a point-per-game right now. Slaggert has seven goals in as many games while Moore boasts six points (1-5) in six games. But the latter half of those games hasn’t seen him register a point. Frank Nazar has seven points (3-4) in eight games, with three of those coming as assists in Michigan’s 10-1 beatdown of Lindenwood.
Sam Rinzel has three points in six games, without any in his last three, similar to Moore. Rinzel has been active blocking shots and staying out of the box. But Minnesota dropped a pair to Big 10 rival Wisconsin last weekend, dropping their record to 3-3 on the young season, after a 3-0 start.
Slaggert, on the other hand, has been on fire. Last season, he scored a grand total of seven goals the entire season and has already matched that total in as many games. The South Bend native was named the Big 10 third star of the week after potting a pair per game in last weekend’s sweep of Mercyhurst.
Of the trio including him, Nazar and Moore, it’s been Slaggert outpacing both, being held off the scoresheet in only two games.
The 4-3 Fighting Irish will get their first big test when they take on the 17th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions for a weekend series Friday and Saturday.
Part two of the Blackhawks college prospects will be up tomorrow. But it’s a good showing from the Big 10 contingency of Blackhawks prospects.
