The Daily: Alex DeBrincat a Necessity for Detroit

Published

Blackhawks fans know what he can do. Detroit Red Wings fans do, too and head coach Derek Lalonde is very aware of how important Alex DeBrincat is to the Red Wings finally finding a playoff berth.

After going 25 straight years to the playoffs, Detroit has missed seven straight. The trade to acquire DeBrincat back in July was a big one, showing that the “Yzerplan” was headed into a more aggressive mobilization that will return the Red Wings to the postseason.

On an interview with 97.1 the Ticket, Lalonde broke it down to the core.

“We need goals and that’s something he can do, so it’s a necessity for us as an addition,” Lalonde said.”

The Red Wings have struggled to find a big-time goal scorer outside of Dylan Larkin, who has posted consecutive 30-goal seasons. Tyler Bertuzzi had moments but was traded to Boston, and then signed with another division rival in Toronto for this season. DeBrincat fits the need, and the Michigan native coming home delights not only the fans, but also the Red Wings.
